Bassingham is a thriving village and civil parish in the district of North Kesteven in Lincolnshire and is situated half way between the city of Lincoln and Newark on Trent (14km each), to both of which it is connected by a regular bus service. The population at the 2001 census was 1,425. The western boundary of the parish is the River Witham and the eastern, the River Brant.

The village has a long history and is recorded in the Domesday Book as having 420 acres of meadow, plus arable land, 2 mills and a church. Today the church, St Michael and All Angels and farming continue, plus a doctor’s surgery, a primary school, play school and a small industrial estate.

Local needs are met by 2 general stores: Green’s, which is also the post office, and the Spar (Hickson’s) which is also the butchers, 2 public house/restaurants, the Bugle Horn and the Five Bells, and a number of other small businesses.

The local community centre is the Hammond Hall with its adjacent playing field and play park, which cater for a various indoor and outdoor clubs and activities.
